Placidity | Skim Coating

Paint can only look as good as the surface underneath it. Uneven drywall, visible seams, old texture and patchwork repairs all show through, especially under bright Florida sunlight and modern lighting. Our Level 4 and Level 5 skim coating creates a smooth, uniform surface so your paint looks flawless from every angle.

At Placidity Renovations, we specialize in high-end drywall finishing that turns tired or textured walls into clean, modern, glass-smooth surfaces.

Drywall Skim Coating

What’s the difference between Level 4 and Level 5?

  • Level 4 finish: Joints, seams and fastener spots get multiple coats of joint compound, then are sanded smooth. It’s a great standard finish for most living spaces, especially with flat or matte paint and normal lighting.
  • Level 5 finish: The highest drywall finish there is. After the Level 4 work, we apply a thin skim coat over the entire surface, so every square inch is uniform. Level 5 is the right choice for walls and ceilings in strong natural light, under recessed or wall-wash lighting, with eggshell, satin or semi-gloss paint, or with dark and bold colors that show every flaw.

When skim coating makes the biggest difference

  • Removing texture: Turn dated knockdown, orange peel or popcorn surfaces into smooth, modern walls and ceilings.
  • Hiding imperfections: Cover old patches, uneven seams, tape lines, dings and surface damage.
  • Accent walls and dark colors: Deep, moody paint colors and bold accent walls need a flawless base to look their best.
  • Bright rooms and big windows: Natural light across a wall exposes every ripple. A Level 5 finish keeps it looking clean.
  • High-end renovations: Pair with crown molding, trim upgrades and flush mount vents for a true luxury finish.

Our process

  • 1. Protect and prep: We cover floors, furniture and fixtures and prepare the surface for proper adhesion.
  • 2. Repair: We fix cracks, damaged areas, loose tape and popped fasteners.
  • 3. Skim and smooth: We apply thin, even coats of compound across the surface, building it up to Level 4 or Level 5.
  • 4. Sand and inspect: Each coat is sanded and checked under raking light to catch flaws before paint.
  • 5. Prime and paint: We finish with primer and paint from Placidity Pro Painting for a clean, durable, seamless result.
